Who, What and WHERE is Carmen Sandiego 

Since the 1980s, Carmen Sandiego has captivated fans worldwide with her daring escapades. The original 1985 game, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego," introduced her as a master thief leading a global syndicate of criminals known as VILE. Building on the success of the acclaimed 2019 animated Netflix series, this iconic legacy continues with an all-new adventure set to captivate audiences of all ages.

The Carmen Sandiego game will enable players to traverse the globe, immersing themselves in vibrant cultures and lively festivals while visiting iconic cities and landmarks. From the bustling streets of Rio de Janeiro to the picturesque shrines in Tokyo, every corner of the world becomes their playground as they unravel elaborate capers and bring VILE's most elusive criminals to justice. Every decision players make will shape the outcome as they compile dossiers and race against the clock to foil VILE's nefarious plans. Whether playing through story-driven campaigns or classic modes, this modernized Carmen Sandiego experience promises to captivate both new and longtime fans alike.

Carmen Sandiego

Carmen Sandiego has undergone many design transformations over the years, but one thing has always remained constant: her iconic coat and hat. These elements have become synonymous with the character, instantly recognizable to fans across generations.

Fun Fact: In her first-ever appearance back in 1985, Carmen's coat wasn't the vibrant red we all know and love today. Originally, it was brown!  

The Almanac

When Carmen Sandiego first launched in 1985, the game was distributed alongside "The World Almanac and Book of Facts."  The in-game almanac was a unique feature that deepened the experience, blending educational content with engaging gameplay.

As we set out to create the Carmen Sandiego game, we knew the Almanac had to remain a core element, but with a modern twist. In our game, the Almanac is more than just a reference guide; it's an integral part of Carmen's journey. Unlock vital information in Carmen's Almanac by finding clues, eavesdropping, and conversing with NPCs. Just as in the original, the Almanac will help you and Carmen stay one step ahead of VILE!

Dossiers Lineup  

Dossier \DOSS-yay\ noun: A file containing detailed records on a particular person or subject. 

No Carmen Sandiego game would be complete without the iconic dossier list. This feature is at the heart of your detective work, allowing you to compare critical information on VILE Operatives as you pursue them across the globe.

On your missions, you’ll collect clues and hints—did the suspect have black hair? Are they afraid of the dark? These seemingly small details are the key to narrowing down the list of suspects. By cross-referencing your clues on the identikit with each operative's dossier, you can zero in on your target and foil their plans. But remember, you can’t make an arrest without a warrant! Make sure you have all the necessary details before sending in the request, or VILE's latest escapade might just slip through your fingers.

The Acme Files

Are you a gumshoe from the '80s or '90s? Do you remember when Carmen was a bit more 2D and pixelated? If so, we’ve got something special just for you. We’re thrilled to introduce The Acme Files, also known as Classic Mode. This additional game mode is a nostalgic tribute to the original Carmen Sandiego games that captured the hearts of players decades ago.

In The Acme Files, the graphics have been scaled back, offering a retro aesthetic that harkens back to the pixelated charm of the past. But don't worry—while the visuals pay homage to the classics, the gameplay features all the modern functionality you've come to expect. It's the perfect blend of old-school and new, giving longtime fans a chance to relive their favorite memories while introducing new players to the iconic look and feel of Carmen's earlier adventures.

What’s Next?

The infamous globetrotter is poised to debut exclusively on Netflix, followed by Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam later in Q1 of 2025.
